My favorite Saints fan
I think this is my favorite Saints fan ever, shown just after the Saints defeated the Vikings to win their first-ever Super Bowl berth.
The look says it all: "I've been waiting a long time for this."

I grew up in New Orleans and remember clearly, 22 years ago, watching the Saints in their first playoff game in history. The Vikings destroyed them 44 to 10. How sweet it is to see the Saints - and New Orleans - as victors.

And, if I remember correctly, the Saints scored a touchdown on the first play of that game and got everyone's hopes up. Then the Vikings went on a 44-3 run bringing the Superdome crashing back down to earth in the most painful fashion. Makes last night's win and the Vikings' suffering all the sweeter.
I find it funny when people talk about "suffering" and "pain" when referring to professional sports. Somewhere along the way, we started to live vicariously through our professional athletes rather than just cheering them on in hopes that the game would be good and sportsmanlike, someone would win, and those winners would win well. Maybe it was when the winners didn't win so well and so sportsmanlike that we, who held them as role models, started acting alike.
On that note, I'm Minnesotan and it was painful to watch the Vikings lose. It was a very up-and-down game, and it probably wouldn't have been as painful a loss if our society didn't place so much amazing weight on professional sports.
Just thought I'd take it a bit deeper.
