Cool retro-steampunk car spotted in NYC

Walking down a stately New York avenue the other day, overlooked by grand pre-war architecture, I was delighted to see a very new take on an old automotive architecture.

I'm not sure what to call it - steampunkgothmobile? - but it was a very impressive, obviously handbuilt, vehicle.

Maybe my favorite feature was the custom-created grill in the shape of a spiderweb.

And I'm sure Noah Scalin will appreciate the big skull-shaped '1' on the passenger-side door.

This reminds me of the "rat rods" sometimes featured on automotive websites like Speedhunters. For example:

Nice find, something different for sure!

Just looks like a hot rod to me. Nothing especially Steampunk about it.

I'll give you goth, but that's a long-standing tradition (eg Coffin shaped rods).

It's a Kustom Kulture hotrod, right out of Big Daddy Roth's Ratfink.

Holy crap that is by far the coolest car I've ever seen. I'm loving the spikes on the roof. hardcore.

I think the spikes on the roof might cause a health and safety ruckus here in the UK. The police have the power to stop you driving if they see something road-illegal. Perhaps fluffy pompoms might work instead?
