Broken: Santa sign

I spotted this outside a restaurant in Tokyo earlier this week. A Christmas sign whose English translation went horribly wrong...

Comments:

It dosen't actually look wrong at all to me. It looks like someone took a sign which a young girl would normally put up and just threw it on a santa..? *shrug* More of a wrong place to put it then a bad sign imho.

It's not the placement. It's the translation. The intended meaning is:

"Santa: I've been a good girl. Please stop here at my house."

But the translation suggests a more sinister meaning:

"Santa! I've been a good girl! Please stop what you're doing to me!"

Replace the word "Santa" with "Michael Jackson" and the word "girl" with "boy," and the unintended meaning becomes clearer...

Ew.

umm... the micheal jackson thing wasn't exactly needed for any more information on pedifiles.

i don't think this sign is particularly broken. its a bit odd, but it still doesn't give a clear message thats dirty or otherwise.

I tend to agree with "never mind that". I can easily see how the "other" interpretation is possible, but that wasn't my first way of reading it; I read it exactly as the translator intended.

Maybe this is more of a matter of personal interpretation than bad translation? ::shrug::

Having had a bit more rest.. I do see what you're saying Rick.. Not sure if that's a good thing or bad thing tho..

to {never mind that}: it's Michael, not "Micheal". Anyone else notice that Santa's dressed in a cook's uniform?

That's a priceless double entendre. I almost fell out of my chair!

I can see how you could read the sign as suggesting that Santa is a paedophile, but when I read it, it sounded more like something out of a really, really *strange* BDSM roleplay session ;-)

I really am quite relieved that the majority of people DON'T find this funny. Sick bastard that I am, I laughed loudly enough to set the dog next door barking.

Don't be too relieved Matt, I laughed my ass off. And to aaugh.. before you talk about someone elses spelling be sure to check your punctuation marks. (See "Santa's")

Well the translation is one thing, but i have two other questions.

What is this sign doing in Tokyo? Are there many christians in Tokyo? Are there many English speakers in Tokyo. to the general public this would be a girl and some white round person with a big red sign.

What is she doing sitting on a snowman?

to virginia-

please make sure you know what you're talking about before correcting someone else - aaugh's use of the apostrophe in "Santa's" is exactly right because it is a contraction for "Santa is." please get it right!

and fyi - you should have used an apostrophe in "elses" (becomes "else's")
