Broken: Coffee labels

CurtisI encountered these coffee urns a few days ago. Look closely at the labels. Decaff (misspelled) is on the left... and "Curtis" is on the right. Mmm, appetizing! "What would you like with your breakfast, sir? Decaff or Curtis?"

Congrats!

Well Orange is now a pretty standard color for Decaf.. and black for regular.. Im assuming Curtis is probaly the brand name..

I have never bought coffee before. I don't drink coffee and I usually just walk past it at gas stations and work without really paying attention. However, lets say I am at a cross-cuntry trip with my dad and he asks me to run in and get him a cup of regular and all I find is Curtis, I have no idea what to do except maybe do the dreaded deed of asking for directions to the correct cup of coffee.

Out of curiousity where was this photo taken?

It's not 100% clear to me that it is a spelling error. Although the usual short form is spelled "decaf", "decaffeinated" does have two "f"'s.

Actually yeah, Curtis is the brand name of at least the stopcock, and perhaps the entire urn. I have seen that all over the place; there's nothing at all uncommon about it.

Taken out of context, however (as this entry does), it is rather humorous. If I get coffee from that spout, will it taste like an 11-year-old African American male comic strip character? Perhaps Ray Billingsley should file a copyright infringement suit.

Often those spigots twist and work both directions, I'll bet the handle is just turned around backwards.

Still, if you're going to write Decaff/Caff, it should be on both sides for just such an eventuality.

_@_vc[_] - ya know i really just can't get going without my morning cup o' curtis!

Nope 1 side is Decaff and 1 is curtis.. wasn't just turned around. Here is the picture from the makers site

by quick inference we can see that curtis=caffeinated

Posted by: Dragon at July 11, 2005 09:53 PM

Yeah, this is broken, but not overwhelmingly so. It's pretty obvious that 'Decaff' means 'Decaffinated' and that Curtis, through process of elimination, is Regular. They should, of course, have spelled it right or have 'Curtis' written on both of them. Ollie- what's wrong with the link?

Not broken but hilarious, especially with that dude's intro. He should be a comedian.

On my drive back to Seattle, I stopped at a truck stop in Nebraska. Where these spouts are marked "Decaff" and "Curtis" the truck stop's were marked "Do Not Serve" - and after tasting the coffee, I agreed.

Orange for Decaf and Black for regular are pretty much standardized colours these days. And so it natuarally maps for 99% of coffee drinkers out there.

That's not broken, that's hilarious!

Remember Sanka? I think it's time to start a new revolution in coffee drinking... "Would you like Curtis? Or is it late enough for decaf?" :)

When I drove a truck for a living, I drank coffee from all over. This wouldn't have even caught my eye. I would have looked for a black or dark brown tap ora at least one that wasn't orange (or green). I think that the most humorous was the time I saw the taps labeled leaded and unleaded.

Tee-hee! Do you take cream or sugar with your Curtis?

Posted by: Bob at July 13, 2005 09:28 AM
