Broken: Fresh choice "Eastern Delights" advertisement

FreshchoiceKenneth Norton writes:

I received this advertisement from Fresh Choice, (a restaurant chain) about its featured Asian delights.

"Granny's Apple Cobbler" sounds delicious but definitely Western.

I also like how they even used a special "Asian" font for the apple cobbler title.

Comments:

It's like this restaurant by my house that's called "A Taste of the Orient ~ Chinese and American".

I guess you could say it's like having a McDonald's in China though...

Maybe they mean the Eastern United States. The cobbler could be from New England or something.

What's really broken is the fact that it says "Granny's Apple Cobbler." My granny never made apple cobbler. It was always apple pie... and strawberry rhubarb pie... mmmm, pie.

Perhaps it is the restaurant owner's "granny" that they are referring to. Maybe she makes one heck of an apple cobbler, in which case, there is nothing really broken. Kinda odd looking/sounding though...

However, I do have to agree that apple cobbler is not what you would normally associate with an oriental theme.

That will go great with my chow mein!

I know this isn't what is broken about this but it caught my eye. Without the accent markes on "Pho Noodle Bowl" it sounds like "Faux Noodle Bowl", like the noodles are artificial...

I agree with Haggai: "...mmmm, pie." =D

I believe the "Granny" comes from the Granny Smith Apple.

The Granny Smith Apple was originally grown in Eastwood, New South Wales, a suburb of Sydney, Australia, so it had nothing to do with Asia.

Uh, yeah, except for the fact that Australia is IN ASIA.

C'mon, get with the program here.

Yale:

Australia is a continent. Asia is a different continent. Therefore, Australia is not Asia.

I offer proof.

It's a joke, son. You're the punchline.

I think Asia is in A-u-S-tral-I-A.

Yale:

However, it is not called *Asian* Delights, but rather *Eastern* Delights.

For some people, Australia is in the East.
