Broken: AED Box at Oxford station

AedIan Chard submits a picture taken at Oxford station in the UK:

This Automated External Defibrillator (AED), a device used in an emergency if someone has a cardiac event, has been missing for over a year.

There's another one across the footbridge, but if someone's having a heart attack the last thing you want to be doing is spending 2 minutes running back and forth to an AED box that actually contains an AED!

Broken in the brokenest sense- it could actually prevent the saving of lives.

Most likely has been stolen, not reported used = not replaced, and can cause damage if not used properly (better/more expensive ones verbaly dictate directions as well as having sensors to avoide misuse)

It is quite concerning that the empty box remains installed in the station. There is no difference if the unit has been stolen or otherwise removed, as the presence of the box indicated the presence of an AED. This is misleading and potentially dangerous in the event of cardiac arrest. Infrequent visitors to the station will certainly not be aware of the missing AED, which I would equate to having two sets of fire stairwells, one of which ends halfway to the ground floor. Quite misleading, and dangerous as a result.

This IS a safety hazard, if an inspector comes he will probably have something to say.

Yeah, especially if you're not in shape -- then there will be two people having heart attacks and still no AED.
