Broken: Subway's digital billboard

PICT0146Chris Perednia writes from right here in New York:

What do you get when you cross the NYC MTA (subway system), Microsoft, and the latest in advertising technology?

Comments:

Darn, it's just tantalisingly off being able to read the bugcheck code. Normally a bugcheck is due to faulty hardware, typically RAM.

The system should have been set to reboot itself automatically, though.

Actually, it's not broken. It's really a stealth Mac ad...

The Drive-Through screen at one of the local McDonald's has had a windows error message on it for the past two months.

Ooh, get a pic of the mcdonalds one :)

My guess is, it's probably a multi-monitor (aka 9 per computer or something), judging from the size on the screen, and they would display 9 different things on different parts of the screen, aka one thing per monitor

Yeah, I saw a video poker machine with a Window's Blue Screen of Death on it a few years back at an arcade. Just wish I had a camera!

That guy that sets up those computers obviously did not get paid very well.

XP does have BSoDs, they're just a different color.

Posted by: Mike at June 26, 2005 02:44 PM

Which would make them no longer a BSoD, technically. :)

It says Windows 2000 anyway.

XP does still have BSoD's, and they are definitely still blue. However, you only get them for a hardware error, as the 1st comment noted, rather than for software errors as with Windows 9x. I gave myself one a few months back when I changed the motherboard without uninstalling the old m/b drivers first.

Windows XP does have a BSOD! I got one a few months ago about a fatal exception. So far, I've had 2...

I corrected it by reformatting my hard drive.

Windows XP does have a BSOD and its white text on a blue screen as in previous windows OS.! I got one a few months ago about a fatal exception. So far, I've had 2... The only difference is the positioning of the text.

I corrected it by reformatting my hard drive.
