Broken: Gas pump response buttons

GaspumpbuttonsJoe Goldberg points out:

This gas pump in Seattle, Washington has two "yes" buttons.  I stood there for awhile trying to figure out how not to buy a car wash.

If you look carefully, you'll barely see the word "no" etched into the bottom button.

Sounds more like a scam than something broken. Oh and first!

I just had to make this into a YTMND. It fits too well.

It is at if want to see it.

Okay, I guess URLs are not allowed. That is probably a good thing.

Looks like the folks at the station altered the button in their favor. Reminds me of this one gas station around here that puts the order of the octane grades at the pump as: 89, 87, then 93. All the other stations have them in numerical order: 87, 89, 93. So if your not paying attention you hit the button opposite of 93, getting 89, thinking you selected 87, thus paying for more expensive gas.

No, the folks at the station didn't alter the button in their favor, or at least not competently. To make people pay for a carwash they didn't want, you would label both buttons NO.

It looks to me like the "no" button fell off of this pump. The staff didn't have an extra "no" button sitting around, but they did have an extra "yes" button, so they decided etching "no" into the button would work.

Still broken, but understandable, since the company that makes the pump probably wanted to charge them $20 for a replacement button.

This reminds me of a joke I saw on line a few years ago:

Windows has detected a more efficient, stable operating system on your computer. Will you like to delete it?

[YES] [YES]
